About the book

What's inside

Seventy-five word searches, one for each of the hymns people still know by heart: Amazing Grace, It Is Well with My Soul, Blessed Assurance, Great Is Thy Faithfulness, Lift Every Voice and Sing, Precious Memories and sixty-nine more. The hymn's title is at the top of the page, and every word in the puzzle comes from that hymn, so it is easy to find yourself humming along. Every puzzle gets its own two-page spread. The word list sits on the left in alphabetical order, and the grid has the whole right-hand page to itself, so nothing is squeezed and no puzzle is split across a turn of the page. The grids are fifteen letters square, set in 31-point bold type with capitals 7.7 millimeters tall, and the word list is larger still, about 8.7 millimeters. The book is in three sections: thirty easy puzzles where words run only across and down, thirty medium puzzles that add the diagonals, and fifteen hard puzzles where words can run in any of eight directions, including backwards. Every answer is written out in plain words at the back, giving the row, the column it starts in and the direction it runs. Thirteen to fifteen words to a puzzle, 1,077 in all. Every hymn was first published in 1930 or earlier; the puzzles use single words from each hymn, and no verses are reprinted. Black ink on white paper, 8.5 by 11 inches, 210 pages, with a wide inside margin so the book lies open. Published under the Good Light Press imprint by K. Terry, part of the Good Light Large Print series.
