Who we are

One publisher, in Kansas City

The Paper Riot Store is run by Kimberly Johnson, who publishes as K. Terry. She has spent years as a family caregiver, and the books are made for the rooms she knows: tired eyes, unsteady hands, and people at very different levels sitting at the same table. Its large print puzzle line is Good Light Press.

Line weights and type sizes are measured, not promised, and every listing says plainly whether a book is bold and easy or drawn in more detail.

Who the books are for

Three rooms, one catalog

Care homes & memory care

Large print, one thing to a page

Thick lines and wide open shapes for unsteady hands and low vision, with adult subjects so nobody feels handed a children’s book. Memory prompts and reminiscence questions are printed right on the page.

Activity directors & adult day

Activities that run without you

Word search by level, sudoku with three levels in one book, and reminiscence books with the conversation built in, so a volunteer can run the session without a plan.

Schools & classrooms

Big pictures a child can finish

Simple bold designs young children can actually complete, single-sided so markers don’t bleed through. Holidays Around the World puts one true sentence under every picture, made to be read aloud.

What makes them different

  • Printed on one side. Markers never ruin the picture behind.
  • Large print you can measure. Word search capitals are 8.5 mm tall; sudoku digits are 7.1 mm.
  • Adult subjects for adults. Hymns, the 1960s, kitchens, gardens and birds, not cartoons.
  • Labeled honestly. Bold and easy, or drawn in more detail, so you can match the book to the person.
  • Cheap to copy. Black lines on white paper, one design to a page.
