About the book
What's inside
A large-print activity book built for one thing: sitting down together. Ten chapters, each a piece of ordinary 1960s life, the kitchen table, the record player, the drive-in, Sunday dinner. Every chapter opens with six conversation starters to read aloud, then four gentle word searches (13 by 13 grids, twelve words, left-to-right and top-to-bottom only, never backwards, never diagonal) and three bold, easy coloring pages with thick outlines and room to work. Each chapter finishes with a Finish the Saying page of familiar phrases, answers included. The book opens with a two-page note for the caregiver: where to sit, why good light matters, why colored pencils beat markers, when to stop. Every word you actually read is set at sixteen point or larger, with puzzle grids at twenty-three point and word lists at seventeen. Coloring is about a quarter of this book. The rest is puzzles and conversation, which is why we call it an activity book rather than a coloring book. Volume one of the Way Back When series.
