About the book

What's inside

A present for somebody who is going to be sitting down for a while and would like something to do with the afternoon. One hundred themed word searches, each on its own page, with letters set at 20 point and a complete answer key at the back. The themes are everyday and good-natured — a soft chair, clean sheets, a perfect peach, the bird feeder, the garden in June. Nothing in this book is about being unwell, which is exactly what makes it a decent thing to bring. Grids are 15 by 15 with fourteen words apiece, listed alphabetically underneath in 15 point type, so a puzzle can be picked up for ten minutes and put down again without losing your place. The book is in three honest sections: fifty easy, where words run across and down only; thirty-five medium, which adds diagonals; and fifteen hard, where words run in any of eight directions including backwards. Printed in black ink on white paper with a wide inside margin so the book lies flat on a lap or a tray. Published under the Good Light Press imprint by K. Terry. Volume one of the Something to Do series.

Questions about
this book

Is this a get well gift, or is it about being ill?
It is a gift, and nothing inside it mentions illness. The puzzle themes are ordinary good things — coffee somewhere new, flowers arriving, the garden in June. That is deliberate. A book that keeps reminding someone they are unwell is a poor thing to hand them.
How big is the type?
Puzzle letters are set at 20 point in 15 by 15 grids, with the word list underneath in 15 point. One puzzle fills a whole page and nothing else is printed on it.
How hard are the puzzles?
Three sections, getting gradually harder. In the fifty easy puzzles words run across and down only. The thirty-five medium puzzles add diagonals. The fifteen hard ones run in any of eight directions, including backwards.
Are the answers included?
Yes. Every puzzle is solved in full at the back, numbered to match.
Is it comfortable to use in bed or in a chair?
That was the point. It is 8.5 by 11 inches with a wide inside margin so it lies flat, one puzzle to a page so there is no fighting the spine, and it can be put down mid-puzzle without losing your place.
